We invite you to come for St Theresa’s Heart of Worship: Conversion of the Heart, a day of Inspiring talk, Praise and Worship, dinner, mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and fellowship on Saturday, September 13th, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Get to know the God who calls us to a deeper loving relationship. This community event, where we will pray, go deeper in our faith, and deepen our relationship with one another, will have Dr. John Bergsma as a key speaker.
Dr. John Bergsma is a Professor of Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville and serves as Vice President of Mission at the St. Paul Center. A former Protestant pastor, Dr. Bergsma entered the Catholic Church in 2001, bringing with him a deep passion for Scripture and a heart for evangelization.
He holds both Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Master of Theology (Th.M.) degrees from Calvin Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and earned his Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame in 2004, graduating with high honors. His academic focus includes the Old Testament and the Dead Sea Scrolls.
A dynamic speaker and prolific author, Dr. Bergsma is widely known for his engaging presentations at clergy conferences and Catholic events. He has written over twenty books, including The Word of the Lord, a 4-volume commentary on the Sunday Mass readings, and his newest release, Jesus and the Jubilee: The Biblical Roots of the Year of God’s Favor. Other well-known works include Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls, Introduction to the Old Testament (Ignatius Press), the Bible Basics series (Ave Maria Press), and Stunned by Scripture, which shares his personal journey to the Catholic faith.
Dr. Bergsma co-hosts The Word of the Lord with Dr. Scott Hahn and regularly appears on the St. Paul Center’s Letters from Home podcast and YouTube channel, reaching Catholics around the globe with clear and faithful teachings.
Above all, Dr. Bergsma is a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, Dawn, have been married since 1993 and are blessed with eight children and three grandchildren.
Session 1: “Mass Conversion: How I discovered the Eucharist and the Catholic Church”
In this popular and entertaining presentation, Dr. Bergsma discusses the remarkable series of events and experiences that led him from being an anti-Catholic Protestant Pastor to being confirmed in the Catholic Church. Particularly appropriate for Eucharistic Congresses, as Dr. Bergsma’s journey focused on the discovery of the Real Presence from Scripture and the Fathers.
Session 2: “Seven Verses Every Catholic Should Know”
Many Catholics have a subconscious fear of the Bible and a worry that perhaps it is, at bottom, a “Protestant” book! Not to fear! The Bible is a “Catholic” book, written, edited, copied, and preserved by the saints and clergy of the Catholic Church! Dr. Bergsma surveys some key Bible verses that every Catholic should have at the tip of their tongue when “hot button” topics arise in conversation with non-Catholics.
You will also get to experience the beautiful Praise and Worship led by Eric DiMarzio and the Sunday 5:30 p.m. St. Theresa choir.
