Summer is a great time for reading!
We encourage not only our students to read, but hope you will find time for a little reading as well. Research tells us that one of the best ways to impact your child’s love of reading is to model that love by your own reading habits.
The reading list for students has been compiled by librarians at member schools of the Houston Area Independent Schools Library Network (HAISLN), of which St. Theresa is a member. It includes both fiction and nonfiction books by some of the best authors for children and young adults.
Books on this list are evaluated annually by grade-level committees. Committee members rely on recommendations from standard, professionally prepared evaluation aids and on input from students and teachers, as well as the collective HAISLN expertise. A conscious effort is made to appeal to the broad range of interests, maturity levels, and reading abilities of students.
You can access the list for your child’s particular grade level by selecting one of the links to the right. Particular assignments and expectations for reports, presentations, and projects can be found there as well.
Should you want to take a look at all the selections HAISLN recommends at various grade levels, please visit their website. You may get some good ideas for your own reading by looking at some of the High School suggestions!
