Ministry is the work done by the members of a Christian community to aid in the building of the Kingdom of God "here and now."
When Jesus ascended into heaven He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be our advocate and guide in continuing the "work" of the kingdom. Jesus said, "And know that I am with you always, until the end of the world." (Mt. 28:20) Jesus is here in each of us. From the moment of our baptism, even if we were baptized as infants, God calls us to love Him and serve Him. Ministry is our response to God’s call. Jesus still speaks to us in varied ways if we will only open our hearts to hear…and respond in action.
Our hands are the hands God uses to reach out to the poor, the stranger, the outcast and the hungry.
Our feet are the feet God uses to walk beside others on their journey and carry them if needed.
Our hearts are the hearts filled with God’s love to offer comfort to those in mourning and those who have lost hope.
It is only through US that the work of the Kingdom will be completed. Ministry is OUR WORK – Kingdom Work, flowing from the fount of our new birth in Christ to transform the world in which we live.
