Fellow Knights,

The following is a schedule of KC members to lead the Rosary for Peace. A Rosary for Peace is said each Friday at 6:45 a.m. prior to the 7:00 a.m. Mass. It is led by members of the St. Theresa Knights of Columbus Council 12866. Everyone is invited to join. If you would like to volunteer to lead the rosary please call Joe Tusa at (713) 862-9846.

Council Information:
St. Theresa The Little Flower Council 12866  is located next to Memorial Park in Houston at 6622 Haskell Street. Gary Truax was elected Grand Knight for 2009-2010. He coordinates all the events with our pastor, Father Philip Lloyd. Gary can be reached at his home number (713) 660-8997.

KC Council Meetings:
A regular monthly meeting is held on the second Thursday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Parish Community Center.

Annual Installation of Officers
The installation of officers was held in the Community Center of Saint Theresa Church at 7:00pm Thursday, August 13, 2009. Afterwards a light lunch was provided for members and spouses..

About Our Council:
St. Theresa The Little Flower Council was founded in 2001 through the efforts of Gary Fruge, Tom Patterson and Miguel Navarro. It is named after the patron saint of our parish. The St. Theresa Little Flower Council works closely with our sponsoring Parish providing funds for various projects and all members are active participants in their parish and its various organizations.

R.O.O.M. – Refugee Outreach, Our Ministry: The R.O.O.M. team sends thanks to the many members of the parish and their friends for the tremendous generosity of heart shown by visits of hospitality, phone calls, gifts, groceries, cooking and baking pot and pans, furniture, lamps, fans, school supplies, apartment decorations, written cards and most of all “prayers” – for the successful resettlement of our refugee families.

Update on Family #1 – Bassam Hannah, now goes by the name “Sam”. He and his wife are expecting a new baby in the fall. (Anyone want to co-ordinate a baby shower here at the church for Millie (Milad), Sam’s wife?) Contact Pat Gerecci.

The family has moved out of the dangerous SW neighborhood, into Memorial, right next to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Bunker Hill. For a year, Bassam worked Patiently doing “valet parking” for minimum wage. As Bassam once said, “God is building my patience!” As a well-educated electronic engineer, he is now “on assignment” in the Boston area with a good starting salary. His wife and son (Joseph) are waiting patiently here in Houston in a lovely apartment on Bunker Hill. The mother-in-law (who was a teacher in Iraq) helps with the daily cooking, watching her grandson and saying her prayers.

She has a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The family is Iraqi Catholic who fled from Baghdad and lived for one year in Turkey. Bassam was unable to find work because they were refugees.

The Bassam family arrived in Houston last September 2008 – a few weeks before Hurricane Ike. They arrived in Houston after a long plane trip. They had no furniture except a card table and some mattresses on the floor. Everything this family now enjoys was provided by the members and friends of St. Theresa’s especially the Knights of Columbus. If you would like to contact this family please email Pat Gerecci.
