The Sacrament of Baptism is the most beautiful thing that happens in someone's life. Did you know that when someone is baptised, it means that God the Father, the Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, give the Christian many very special gifts? To be baptised in the Catholic Church means more than being sprinkled with water on one's head and receiving a Christian name. The word 'Baptism' comes from a Greek word that means to 'plunge' or 'immerse'. To 'plunge' someone in water represents the person dying, being buried and resurrecting with Christ as a 'new creature'. Some call this Sacrament 'the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit' because Baptism results in a new birth of water and the Spirit. Without it, no one can enter the Kingdom of God. Jn.3:5
The Sacrament of Baptism makes us members of the Body of Christ, removes original sin and all personal sins. It is necessary for salvation.

Infant Baptism Preparation
Through infant baptism, children are surrounded in the love and guidance of the Holy Spirit to protect them from being overpowered by the effects of human sinfulness.
Preparation for parents and godparents of children to be baptized are held monthly . This preparation is done in a two part series. Classes are held in English in room 205 of the Community Center on Rodrigo Street - the two story building behind the church at 6:45 pm. Parents, when considering choosing Godparents, please remember that AT LEAST one of them must be a Catholic in good standing. A letter from another parish verifying this will be requested if this person is not a parishioner of St. Theresa. Both parents and godparents must attend a Baptism preparation class. If classes are attended at another parish, a certificate of completion will be required.
Adult Baptism
Adult baptism is held on Holy Saturday of Holy Week. It is the true celebration of the Risen Christ as we witness the beginning of new life in Baptism. After weeks of preparations and study, the RCIA members receive the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation.
